“Getting On with James Urbaniak” has joined the Feral Audio family of podcasts. (The great Sara Pocock did my page’s illustration.) I now rub shoulders with such Feral Audio stars as Todd Barry, Chelsea Peretti, Steve Agee, Erin McGathy, Dan Harmon and Duncan Trussell. Please enjoy the monthly scripted audio drama that the AV Club said “demands and rewards careful attention” and that once gave notable comedian Paul F. Tompkins a “driveway moment.”

SO honored to have been a part of this. James’ podcast is my favorite. I loved drawing this.

Here is a fun thing in which I got to participate! The very lovely Jason Klamm was kind enough to invite me onto his fantastic podcast Comedy on Vinyl where, normally, people way more funny and articulate than I am talk about their favorite comedy records. I wanted to talk about PFT so I picked Freak Wharf, since it’s a nice lead-in to the all the parts of Paul’s comedy that inspire me artistically (I talk about his podcast as well, and most of his artistic/comedic output, really).

Anyway, listen here if you want and tell me later if it sounds okay—there’s no WAY I can listen to this myself! Hahaha… heh… gulp

Man, it took me a while to get back to this! So this is a basic “what if” animation. The folks at WayForward are remaking the old DuckTales NES game as “DuckTales Remastered,” so I decided I’d try to mimic what they did for the Rescue Rangers NES game!

I animated all of the performable actions you can do as Chip based on some sprite sheets I found from the original game. I’m gonna upload a full video of it eventually, once I can get the export to look better. That way it can be seen without a break in the action.

Here’s hoping they actually go forward with a Rescue Rangers remake!

I love this. Making a Rescue Rangers game at work would be SO FUN.

One week ago my friend Scott released this awesome short film/PSA, and followed it up with Feminazi Stole My Ice Cream, an art collective about the absurdity of systematic, large-scale, societal fear of women. Body image is something that’s been on my mind a lot lately, so my take on this is about the constant bombardment of pressure for ladies to look like flawless, desirable sex objects. A quick editorial cartoon about the intersection of self-pity, entitlement, rape, territoriality, misogyny and fear of women. You see it all over the place online in the form of Men’s Rights Activists (of whom there are a few reasonable non-misogynists), Men Going Their Own Way, Pick Up Artists, and dudes touting the “Red Pill”, because The Matrix is a good movie. Look any of these up if you have the stomach for it. These are extreme examples, but watered-down forms of these ideas are everywhere.

In lurking their blogs and youtube channels for a while, I’ve noticed that beyond the standard patriarchal chauvinism there is this deep fear of women - what they will do to me, how they will reject me, how they will use me, how they are changing society in a way that does not favor me, how they are making men into something I don’t like, how they are making themselves into something I don’t like, that they won’t give me what I want, and that they won’t give me what I think is rightfully mine. This goes beyond fear of feminism- this is fear of women at its purest. And that, to quote a puppet, leads to anger and hate. It’s sad.

I am a feminist. I think there’s enough ice cream to go around, but it does mean those of us with 3 scoops might have to give one or two up. Also, The Matrix is a fun movie but probably not anything you should be basing a philosophy on.

Fucking great. Scott’s a good egg (and also a very skilled animator).

I got to meet one of my all-time animation heroes tonight: Masaaki Yuasa! Seek out his work if you don’t know it; it’s just… God. Mind Game is an absolute masterpiece and pivotal to my development as an animator.

I drew him and he drew me Warp from Kaiba. He also animated Chibi Maruko-chan, right in front of our FACES. I am an extremely lucky person.

I stepped in super wet dog shit this morning, endured 1 1/2 hours of stop-n-go freeway traffic, left my yogurt in my hot car when I got into work, and promptly spilled hot tea all over myself. Once I finally sat down at my desk I drew this frustrated scribble. I forgot about it once my day kicked into gear and got exponentially better (yay for nice coworkers, and for keeping a spare set of running shoes at WayForward), but I just saw it again as I was about to close Photoshop and I kind of like it as a drawing. ART FROM PAIN.
